Matt had summer leave and we headed out of the heat and into the first mountains we can get to, about 6.5 hours north in North Georgia. They aren’t ‘mountains’ as we think of them, but the the landscape was full of trees, hills and water, the weather was cool and fresh, the lake was beautiful, and the campground was very quiet. We got epic firefly shows every night, which was a really neat surprise. It rained a lot for the first few days, so we got to make a giant “tent city” out of all the tarps and all the rope. Thankfully Matt and Cedar like hoarding rope. We hiked a bit, but the rain and the post-Covid lethargy made it hard; also the hiking is not quite as amazing as what we are used to. We had no cell service, also a surprise, but a very nice one actually… it was good to disconnect. In our disconnection from the virtual world, we slowed and quieted, thought and drew and sat and paddled and fished and tended the fire. In the end, we remembered all the things we love about camping (we hadn’t gone camping at all during our 4 years in Italy).
