I booked a girls trip to the northwest corner of Sardinia. I’ve been trying to get to Sardinia, but Covid lockdown stopped me twice, so the third time was a charm. It was BEAUTIFUL. I can’t even describe how badly I wanted to walk in those hills overlooking the turquoise sea. I have heard Sardinia gets very packed with tourists during the summer season, but mid-October was perfect– still people out and shops open, but without the crowds. The weather was nice and warm, but the sea was too cold to swim. The water was crystal clear, even turquoise sometimes. The town of Alghero, where we stayed, was very nice: it was pretty much the perfect Italian town, with families and old-timers, Old Town and new town, lungomare and beach.
We were there for just a couple of days; not enough time at all! We could only see a tiny little bit of the amazing beauty of this island. But, still, I am glad we saw what we did. Mostly we went to beach after beach after beach, thanks to Jean who just can’t seem to get enough of beaches. We stayed a few minutes walk from the beach so went there to watch the sunset every evening. We drove an epic coastal drive to another town called Bosa, saw an ancient ruin called a Nuraghe, ate a lot of Sardinian pecorino cheese, and walked Alghero’s fortress along the sea at sunset and sunrise.
