We finally got to fly somewhere with Matt! For Matt’s summer leave we went on a family trip to Montenegro. We flew into Split, Croatia, rented a car, and drove through Croatia, Bosnia, and into the mountains of northern Montenegro. The lines for the border crossings took hours, so after a day of flying, driving, waiting, and realizing we didn’t have any internet data out of the EU (meaning we had a hard time finding our Airbnb), we finally found our Airbnb around 11pm! The next day we woke to a lovely, pine-filled, mountainous, chilly place that felt exactly like home (Montana) to us. We spent the next few days driving, hiking, enjoying the chilly weather and the epic views, and walking around the little mountain town of Zabljak. We really liked that buying food there was quite cheap! We enjoyed local cheese, boiled wine, plenty of meat, and giant pastries while in Zabljak. On our way down from the mountains, we stopped by the Tara Bridge over the Tara River Gorge, one of the deepest canyons in the world. The water in the river is an amazing turquoise-blue, and the drive along the river was beautiful, although I felt very sad to leave the mountains behind on the way down to the coast.
