Matt had a Band gig in Orvieto, a town in the Umbria region a few hours north of us. I’ve decided that if I can go to his gigs, I will… so I did! The kids and I did a whirlwind overnight trip that included Parco dei Mostri (Monster Park) in Bomarzo, a viewing of an old city that is eroding away, Civita di Bagnoregio, and our overnight destination of Orvieto. Orvieto was fantastic, a walled city built on a hill with cute streets, a beautiful duomo (cathedral) and other historic sites, and pretty much all without cars. We watched Matt and the Navy Band play with the duomo as their backdrop, enjoyed gelato and strolling through town, and stayed in a cute apartment with a view of the rooftops and mountains. The next day, we took Matt with us to a terme (thermal hot spring) in Saturnia. This free terme was soooooooo neat! We enjoyed soaking for a couple of hours, then admired the lovely rolling hills of the region on the drive home. It was a quick trip with a lot of driving, but totally worth it!
