ireland, part 3

May 17, 2019

After saying good-bye to our beautiful home in the country and getting a new tire at the local Tyre Shop, we headed a few minutes north to the famous Cliffs of Moher.  At first it seemed like it was going to be just a giant, crowded tourist trap, but the further we walked, the more amazing the views, with fewer and fewer tourists.  The views were spectacular.

After the Cliffs, we drove through The Burren National Park, a barren land of rocks and water.  Super pretty, strange and a little eerie.

The city of Galway was our final destination for the night, and it was fantastic.  The culture was young and hip, with street musicians, full pubs, and a relaxed, hippie vibe.  We got take-away pizza and kebabs and took our food to the town square, where we found people stretched out all over the grass and steps, basking in the sun.  We were so fortunate to be there during a beautiful, sunny week, and we really understood how much the Irish appreciate it when the sun comes out.  This town really reminded me of Missoula, a hip young college town with happy people who are having fun.  I would absolutely visit this town again.

Our last day in Ireland brought us back to Dublin.  We flew into Dublin on the first day and drove straight out of town, so this time we checked out the city for a couple of hours before we caught our flight back to Naples.  It was super packed with people, and really like any other big city we’ve been too– busy.  We found a couple of nice pedestrian areas, one called Temple Bar filled with restaurants.  One thing I did notice about Dublin is that there was food EVERYWHERE– all different kinds of food.  Cedar and I got mexican burritos, which we haven’t eaten for over a year now since leaving the US.  Sometimes in big cities it isn’t so easy to find food, but I would like to go back to Dublin just to eat!
