We met our new Neopolitan friend, Rosa, on the trail of the orchids in Cilento. She and I have kept in touch, and she invited us to join her family at a thermal spa in a town called Contursi Terme. This town is filled with thermal spas and hotels. We bathed at hotel Rosa Pepe, in pools of varying depths and temperatures, next to the river, and with a view of the Cilento mountains in the distance. We enjoyed ambient world music playing in the background and lovely conversation with Rosa and family, while Cedar had an experience of learning to play with kids with whom he doesn’t share a language. The floors and walls of the pool are made with a mineral (Rosa said calcium), which we used as facial masks to exfoliate. People say the water is healing, and the state pays for elderly people to soak in them. I am absolutely going back, and bringing people with me.
