When people around me start catching on to the fact that I am often toting around my big camera and snapping photos of all the kids running around… and then when I post pretty photos of their babies on their facebook pages… and then when their friends start complimenting the photos and asking who took them… well, at that point people start asking me why I am not in the ‘business’ of being a photographer. Why not? Well, I don’t actually have a good answer, except that I am my own worst critic. I am happy with my photos in general, I love taking them, and I know others love them… but I know I have a lot of improving to do still. Also, putting people into poses isn’t something I have done much of or understand, and honestly my heart lies in candid, authentic lifestyle photography. And, really, the market seems to be so saturated with photographers, marketing, packages, different qualities of photos and ways to do it, and my life is so full with homeschooling and working out and Matt’s crazy schedule; really, I am not sure I’m ready to jump on that boat.
And yet, capturing people being who they are is so natural and satisfying for me, and so is seeing their excitement when they see the photos I took for them. Those things make me want to do more of it. Why not spend some time blessing others with beautiful pictures and earning a bit of money to boot? It makes sense. So I created a facebook page for people to find and contact me easily, and we will see where it leads. Over time, as I establish myself at each base and become involved in the community, I am sure, as usual, people will catch on to what I’m doing with my big camera slung over my shoulder and they, too, will ask me for pictures. This time I might just say, “Sure, I am in business.” Onward on a new voyage!
