learning the guitar

Apr 27, 2012

Being a musician who loves to play piano and make music with our children, Matt thinks it might benefit our family connection and ignite our children’s interest in learning to play music if I am joining in the music-making with them. ย Just between you and me, I think he aspires for us to one day be a touring family band, complete with VW bus… but in the meantime he thinks it will be fun to have piano, guitar, drums and singing all going on together in a simple family ritual of merry music-making. ย So I’m learning and really enjoying it– it is easy to learn, quick to pick up throughout the day, something I can do while still engaging with the kids, and, other than being able to make lovely sounds, the coolest thing about learning to play is that when I practice the children become very calm, focused, and quiet, which means I also get space to practice. ย Pretty cool!

Love that your children become so focused and quiet when you practice. That’s enough to make me want to take up guitar right there. Seriously. ๐Ÿ™‚

Beautiful photos, and obviously a guitar is made of a tree so it totally fits. ๐Ÿ™‚

Yes, a guitar is made from a tree, beautiful like a tree and loved like a tree. ๐Ÿ˜‰ you are hilarious.

What a cool thing to do as a family! ๐Ÿ™‚ We’ll wait for video of you playing in the future for us!

    Love this.

My hubby has played guitar for years. He’s actually really good. He actually can play any stringed instrument…played the bass in orchestra in high school. I love that about him. He still picks the guitar up from time to time and plays for the kids while they sing and dance.

I had a deep desire to learn how to play back in college. Had him help me, even took lessons. I could do some very basic stuff, but I never stuck with it. Some days I wish I would have and others I realize it was probably just not for me. I found something else to be passionate about. But I would really really love my kids to learn. It’s such a “life-long” instrument. I would love that for my kids. SO cool that you are learning!!

Gorgeous photos! Musical instruments teach kids soo much more than just how to play. I played clarinet and flute and piano when I was younger. Love it all! Wish I had kept it up. My brother still plays guitar and bass and piano. And sings to boot! He’s the talented one in the family! ๐Ÿ˜‰ I love to hear him play.
And I LOVE the idea of the family band touring in a VW bus. LOVE it! ๐Ÿ™‚

I love that you used the guitar for this week’s theme! Totally out of the box!

And I love that you are learning to play. My hubby used to play so I started to teach myself and was really enjoying it. And then I just stopped. Maybe I should give it a whirl? Or just stick to piano…ha.

I would love for my son to learn to play something too. He just does not have the interest at this time… I think music is so important!

    Love these shots!

Gorgeous light in these shots!! The themes are hard for me sometimes too – I love that you just forged ahead anyway and went your own way. ๐Ÿ™‚
