underneath

Mar 16, 2012

While visiting our friend last week in North Carolina, after reading a library book about a girl who eats bugs, Ashton confirmed that she was going to cook up some worms and eat them.  She was dead serious, totally committed.  She went outside and dug into the earth to find a selection of worms, brought them inside to be washed, and, upon feeling them alive and wriggling, squirmy and slimy, she decided she wasn’t going to cook and eat worms after all.  So she set them free.  I think Cedar was a little disappointed when he found out the worms were gone, as he was planning on having some too.  It was a good lesson, I think, a learning experience and, (though we tried to conceal our laughter) quite funny.

Your story made me laugh – love that she was so determined and then seeing them all alive and squirming put them back. Independence, a creative mind and a loving soul all rolled up in one.

I loved your photos from North Carolina last week two – must have been a great getaway.

Hilarious! I love how seriously they are taking their task in the pictures. And it totally cracks me up that Cedar was disappointed. 😉

I love the adventures your family always seem to be on! How exciting to see what's underneath a tree!
And I remember clearly my 4th grade teacher reading "How To Eat Fried Worms" to us.

Love this story in photos, Jessica. It's funny what kids think they can do, isn't it?

The first thing I noticed was Cedar's pants with the skull and crossbones. Love them. Ashton is one adventurous girl if she was serious about eating some worms! I think this was a great learning experience. You do some fun things with your kiddos. 🙂
