I love making play-dough for my kids. It is super easy to make, it is good for hours of creative play, it never gets old because it is made-to-order, and it can be made into something we can use for years to come. We have often referred to Mudworks for our recipes, but today we used the recipe below and it was perfect. After a time of enjoying it, we shaped the dough into doll food, dried it in the oven for an hour, painted it, and painted on mod-podge (to seal it). Et Voila: an assortment of handmade doll food.
PLAYDOUGH
- 3 cups flour
- 1/2 cup salt
- 2 tbs. cream of tartar
- 2 tbs. vegetable oil
- 2 cups boiling water
- Mix together all the dry ingredients
- Add the oil to the boiling water
- Mix the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, carefully (it is hot!)
Knead, using a little additional flour until the consistency is just right
